How to Make Your Hair Soft and Smooth?

1. Shampoo

Ingredients in shampoo can help to form a protective film on the surface of the hair, which can make the hair easier and smoother to brush. However, you should be careful not to shampoo too often. Your body produces natural oils that help soften your hair and repeatedly shampooing your hair will remove these oils.  People with curly hair don’t need to shampoo as often because it’s harder for curly hair to maintain natural oils that can be removed by shampooing. If you have dry or curly hair, try skipping days that you would usually wash your hair to help it become softer. 

2. Conditioner

Conditioner is an excellent way of achieving soft and smooth hair. There are different methods of using conditioner, so you should experiment to find out what’s best for you. The usual method is to apply conditioner after you’ve shampooed your hair and then wash it out after you’ve rubbed in into your hair. Sometimes it’s a good idea to leave a little bit of conditioner in your hair strands if you have very thin hair. You can do this by only rinsing the conditioner off gently, or rubbing a little bit extra in after you’ve done the initial rinse. You can also try conditioning your hair before you shampoo it.

3. Avoid Heat

Hair styling equipment such as curling irons, flat irons and hair dryers will add heat to your hair and can result in dryness and split ends. When your hair is dry it won’t appear silky smooth so you should avoid applying heat to your hair if possible. If you need to blow dry your hair you should use it on a low-heat setting and not hold it close to your hair. You should also make sure you don’t focus on drying one area because heat will accumulate. If possible you should let your hair air dry naturally for the best chance of retaining moisture.

4. Combing and Brushing

When brushing your hair, you need to be gentle in order to not damage the hair. By vigorously brushing your hair from the root to the end this could worsen the condition of your hair by damaging the outer layer.

Instead you should try combing the hair gently when wet and then following this up by brushing it when it’s dry. If you have any knots, try working these slowly and try not to rip any hair from the scalp.

5. Diet

Incorporate healthy fats and healthy oils in your diet to keep them looking smooth. To have shiny smooth hair you need the have oils in your hair, so you need oils in your diet. Omega-3 supplements and healthy fats like avocados and nuts are an excellent way of maintaining a healthy lipid intake for silky hair.

6. Retaining Moisture

It is important for hair to keep enough water to maintain smooth and soft. Normally hair contains around 10% water. Once the hair contains water less than 10%, it can become dry and matted. Applying hair conditioner onto your hair and then covering it with a towel will help retain moisture. Also, vapour from a shower may help hair to get more water. Another effective tool is a hair steamer, which help to add moisture and restore elasticity which helps it to look soft and smooth.

7. Maintaining Hair Extensions

Even you use micro loop hair extensions or pre bonded hair extensions you need to make sure they have enough moisture to avoid them becoming dry. Follow these instructions carefully to keep your extensions and your natural hair looking soft and smooth.
