How to wash hair extensions?

It is a question we are asked frequently. So we thought it was
necessary that we answer everything you need to know about THE hair extensions, starting with how to wash your hair when you have hair extensions.

Step 1

Using a soft bristle brush to brush your hair before washing to remove loose hairs and avoid tangled.

Step 2

Use a moisturising shampoo on your scalp and hair, taking care not to rub – use a downwards stroking motion. We recommend using shampoo which is specifically designed for dry hair, as this will intensely nourish and give your hair extensions/hair weaves a longer life.

Step 3

Rinse your hair to remove shampoo, and apply moisturising conditioner to your hair. You can use more conditioner on hair extensions than on your natural hair, because it’s harder for them to get greasy. Only apply conditioner on the mid to end lengths rather than the areas where the extensions are attached. And then give your hair a good rinse and make sure you get all the products out of your hair.
Step 4

After washing, gently squeeze out any excess water with a dry towel (do not rub and twist). Never brush or comb your hair when they are still wet!

Step 5

Dry the hair extension bonds with a hair dryer on cool heat. Finally, comb through the hair extensions when dry.

For those using clip-in hair extensions, you should only need to wash them after you have worn them roughly 4-6 times or when they become oily from a build up of products in them, since hair extensions don’t have the supply of oils and nutrients as our growing hair has, they don’t need to be washed as often as our natural hair does. Wash hair weaves or hair extensions are not difficulty any more.
